HINT is now a certified ICIP partner with INVENEO, USA

November 16, 2008 by Genesis Leave a Comment

Inveneo is a non-profit social enterprise whose mission is to get the tools of ICT into the hands of organizations and people who need them most: those in remote and rural communities in the developing world.

To do this, Inveneo creates and sells highly affordable and sustainable ICTs that are specifically designed for organizations — governments, NGOs, private enterprises — that serve these rural communities with vital services that include education, healthcare, economic development, relief and telecenters. Our ICTs are designed to overcome challenges that these organizations face:

  • Lack of dependable, if any, electricity
  • Extremely high cost of power
  • Prevalence of heat, dust, moisture and humidity, often punishing conditions for ICTs
  • Lack of affordable access to Internet and telephony services
  • Novice users and administrators

This partnership follows HINT’s participation in Inveneo’s workshop in Cameroon in November 2007.

Becoming a certified ICIP means we can sell and install Inveneo equipment.

In February 2008, Rachelle Lynn Clune and Elizabeth Rhea Embry, both nurses in the United States of America (USA), will visit Helps International (HINT), an NGO located in Buea, South West Province of Cameroon in Sub-Sahara Africa.

During their time here, they will take part in a medical outreach program planned to take place in 2 rural communities: Ekona and Tole.

The outreaches are intended to:

  • Sensitize these communities on the HIV/AIDS pandemic
  • Train HIV Educators in these communities
  • Educate the public (esp. youths) on sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
  • Train community members on various aspects of basic hygiene.
  • Offer free consultations and free medication.

Rachelle & Beth need US$ 3,425.97 (excluding their flights to Cameroon and back) to be able to reach these rural villages with this life-saving information, training and resources.

We would like to invite you to participate in this outreach with your donations.

Helen Savage, arrives Buea from England

July 3, 2007 by Genesis Leave a Comment

Helen arrived on May 29, 2007 just in time to meet up with the send off ceremony in honour of Joseph and Heather Talbot that took place on May 30.

As a trained nurse with business background, Helen will continue with Heather’s work which involves training Community HIV Educators who will become effective HIV?AIDS educators in their communities. She will also be putting together a manual to provide training on small business set up and management. She then hopes to run a number of Small Business Seminars before returning to England. We will also be working on raising funds for our micro finance program.

Helen, welcome to HINT and we hope you will make use of every opportunity to share your knowledge, experience, and skills.

Oxford University Donates to Helps International (HINT)

April 3, 2007 by Genesis Leave a Comment

the Wotolo IT Training CentreThe Learning Technologies Group of Computing Services at the University of Oxford has donated the sum of 500 British Pounds towards the establishment of the Wotolo IT Training Centre.

Because of a large influx of students into our IT Training Program, it became necessary to set up a Centre dedicated entirely to the training needs of the communities in which we work so as to decongest the current centre at Bonduma. The new Centre is only about 100 meters away from the current one and so eases management.

However, the total amount of money needed to completely setup the Centre is 3,800,000 FCFA (about $7,600)
