Sample Volunteer Opportunities

May 20, 2010 by hint Leave a Comment

Here is a list of sample volunteer opportunities. This is not a complete list. As a community Development NGO, we work in a variety of domains and can help design a program that meets your skills and training so that you make the most of your time while workingt with us. Simply let us know what you are intested in:

  • Teach Computer Education to students at one of our partner Schools or train IT Instructors for these schools
  • Write funding proposals for some of our projects and help with fundraising.
  • Organize fundraising activities for our projects including contacting and following up donors. This can be excellent for online volunteers who do not or cannot leave their home countries to Cameroon.
  • Coordinate shipment of computers and other equipment such as medical suppliers and the distribution and installation in schools and community centers.
  • Teach Computer Basics (MS Window, Internet, Emailing, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint) at one of our partner scholls in Buea or at our Community IT Centres
  • Teach Web Design or Networking, or Computer repairs and maintenance, Desktop publishing or Photo Editing to about 10 students in class for 3 hours a day.
  • Serve at our Community IT Training Centre as Office Secretary, Cyber attendant, IT Instructor or IT Technician.
  • Run HIV/AIDS sensitization seminars in schools, prisons and at Community Groups, etc
  • Train HIV/AIDS Educators at our Centre, in schools, prisons, at Community Groups, etc
  • Participate in a medical outreach as part of a team.
  • Train young social entrepreneurs in basic business set up and management skills.
  • Identify needy orphans especially those orphaned by AIDS in targeted communities for subsequent support.

Computers have arrived

February 1, 2010 by hint Leave a Comment

We are happy to announce that the 40′ container of computers and accessories that left the UK on December 14 finally arrived Bonduma, Buea on Saturday January 30, 2010, ie just after 6.5 weeks.

It was extreme

Not many containers get around this area (not to talk of a 40′ for that matter) so it was quite a scene with so many neighbours and passersby who stood all around to watch and one could read amazement on their faces.

Since we could not afford to hire a lift to lift the container with the goods and place on the ground, we had to hire more than 33 young men who first of all emptied the container to the ground and after that had a small lift pull the empty container to the ground after a hard struggle. Once the empty container was down and properly placed, our more than 33 young men again had to pick up all the goods from the ground back into the container.

It was a long and tedious exercise but we made it finally

Enabling Clean and Safe Water Supply

April 11, 2009 by Genesis 7 Comments

Many communities rely on untreated stream water and often result in several diseases. We would like to help such communities with water purification systems in order to prevent water-borne disease.

We are currently working on providing clean water to the inhabitants of Bonduma village. We are partnering with Engineers Without Border (EWB) in the UK on this project. We are currently at research level.

Click here for detail on the Safe Water Supply Project

If you concern is enabling poor communities get access to clean water, then you can join us on this project. Contact us for more information.
