HINT admitted into Generous Giving Network

January 2, 2007 by Genesis Leave a Comment

Helps International has been admitted into the Generous Giving Network. What does this mean?

Generous Giving is a privately funded Christian ministry that seeks to encourage givers of all income levels—as well as pastors, church lay leaders and others—to experience the joy of giving and embrace a lifestyle of generosity, according to God’s word and Christ’s example. It was launched in 2000 by the Maclellan Foundation to stir a renewed, Spirit-led commitment to generosity among Christians. Generous Giving does not solicit donations.

Through the Generous Giving Marketplace (the world’s largest searchable database of faith-based funding opportunities …) verified and approved Christian churches and nonprofit ministries can post funding opportunities which can be viewed and possibly funded online by thousands of donors worldwide.

We can post as many projects as we want but we must pay US$ 45 per project for it to be visible to donors. This is where we need you to come in. If you will like to pay for one or more projects to be visible, please contact us. Thank you.

Michael and Margaret Asbury visit HINT from England

December 8, 2006 by Genesis Leave a Comment

Michael and Margaret Astbury (parents of Heather Margaret Talbot, currently volunteering with HINT in Buea, Cameroon) recently visited HINT and some parts of Cameroon November 20 to December 2 2006.

During their time here, we were able to show them around some of our projects including our ICT Training Centre in Bonduma, and a building we have already acquired to host a Community Health Centre and a Community Education Library. We also visited the three Pilot Schools we will be working with on the Library/Literacy Project.

Michael & Margaret Astbury attend Woodbridge Quay Church and you can contact them through the Church’s website to learn more about opportunities in Cameroon to serve or to support. You may also contact us directly for more information on volunteering and support.

The Joseph and Heather Talbot prize instituted

September 30, 2006 by Genesis Leave a Comment

John Onofio, winner of the award for 2006Back Packs is a program organised by HINT once a year at the beginning of each school year to provide school supplies to needy children. In 2006, about 30 children were helped.

During Back Packs 2006, we instituted the Joseph and Heather Talbot Prize for Service to Humanity in honour of the Joseph and Heather Talbot, volunteers from London working for HINT who were present during the award ceremony. The prize was instituted to appreciate and promote their heart of sacrifice and voluntarism in Community projects.

The prize will be awarded each to a child in our community who has been noted by many to have a heart of a volunteer; one who is ready to serve and not look for a reward from men.

The 2006 prize was awarded to John Onofio of Government Primary School at Bonduma. John made sure that there was always clean drinking water at the HINT office. Each day, he would stop by at the office to collect bottles to fill with clean fresh water.

The prize has a monetary value of CFA 200,000 (US$ 400, GBP 200) attached to it. The money will be used to cater for a child’s entire education for the whole year including books, uniform, school fees, and health care.

We are now accepting donations for the 2007 prize. Donate online via PayPal.

Together we can help thousands of children and end up educating a whole generation

Joseph and Heather Talbot arrive Buea from the UK

July 15, 2006 by Genesis Leave a Comment

Heather and Joe TalbotJoseph and Heather Talbot a couple from England have finally arrived Buea to work as volunteers for Helps International (HINT). Interestingly, Joe and Hev will be here for quite a while.

While here Heather will help us with our Community Health Projects such as HIV/AIDS awareness and training among Community groups and faith-based organisations; you will also be able to visit other health projects in Buea to have first hand information about the health needs of the area; you will equally be doing a pioneering work on our Community Health Centre.

She is a senior nurse at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, England. Read more about Heather.

Joe’s main work will be to develop a brand new website for HINT as well as help develop curriculum for some of our advanced IT training modules such as HTML & CSS, photo editing, PHP,…

Joe is quite creative and able multimedia designer with an eye for design and a good understanding of Web technologies and Web-related usability and accessibility issues. He is experienced in developing standards-compliant and accessible online learning tools, primarily involving XHTML, PHP, MySQL and Actionscript. He has over five years experience of developing digital media projects in a University environment and is familiar with the challenges of delivering collaborative projects on time and on budget. HINT's work acknowledged by Cameroon Government

January 27, 2005 by Genesis Leave a Comment

The Minister Delegate at Cameroon’s Ministry of External Relations has written a letter of congratulations to Tinshu Genesis Gemuh Executive Director of Helps International (HINT) in recognition of the Prize he received from the hands of the Mayor of Rome as well as HINT’s efforts to help bridge the digital divide by providing access and training to the new ICTs.

The letter dated January 24 2005 with reference number 00219/DIPL/D3/SDCNG/ONG was received as a big surprise as all of us at HINT did not know that the government was aware of our little efforts to ease access to information and communication in our local communities.

One of our major projects is providing access and training to information and communication technologies through computers connected to the internet. We have two main levels of training: Basic and Advanced.

You can download a copy of the ministerial letter (link to a pdf document).
