Brandon Turner, USA

June 16, 2010 by hint Leave a Comment

Brandon TurnerBrandon Turner arrived Buea on June 16, 2010 (together with Robert Arlt Jr.) to be involved with our School PCs Project that is installing computer labs in schools and other educational establishments and providing IT training to teachers and students.

Here’s who Brandon is:

My name is Brandon Turner and I am a Biophysics student at Wake Forest University. I live in California (when not in school) and am particularly interested in teaching and research. I’m going to be in Cameroon from mid June to Mid August. I got involved with this as a member/leader of a group called Blackstone Operations that specializes in connecting kids with different opportunities and encouraging interaction and exposure to new things.

Random fact about me: I love baking and enter a few baking competitions from time to time (never won anything though but it’s all for the fun).

Together with Robert, they raised $9,900. The funds will be used to pay for their trip, their stay in Buea and up to $3,000 will go towards supporting the School PCs Project.

Welcome Brandon and we look forward to working with you and learning from you.

  • Teach Computer Basics (MS Window, Internet, Emailing, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint) at one of our partner scholls in Buea or at our Community IT Centres

  • Serve at our Community IT Training Centre as Office Secretary, Cyber attendant, IT Instructor or IT Technician.
  • Run HIV/AIDS sensitization seminars in schools, prisons and at Community Groups, etc
  • Train HIV/AIDS Educators at our Centre, in schools, prisons, at Community Groups, etc
  • Participate in a medical outreach as part of a team.
  • Train young social entrepreneurs in basic business set up and management skills.

May 25, 2009 by Genesis Leave a Comment

[srandom=any,288,1,1,n,left,both]I am truly excited to inform you that we have now opened donations for the Computers For Sustainability (CFS) Project. We are looking for 2,753 who will donate USD 25 each towards the CFS project. I want to appeal that you consider becoming of of these people, willing to help build a future for HINT.

We have already put together a website to manage the project and you can read more about it and how to contribute at http://cfs.hintonline.org. We are very grateful for your generosity and look forward to your participation in the project.

There are a number of ways through which you can help:

(1) Make a donation online, by check, or direct bank-to-bank transfer. Details on the project site above.

(2) Invite others to donate by sharing this project with your friends in your various Social Networks (Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, Digg, Twitter, etc) and encouraging/inviting them to donate. You may also simply EMAIL the project link to your friends.

(3) Invite me to your church, meeting, organization, school, company, family or group for a presentation. I am in the USA fundraising for this project from June 14, 2009.

(4) You can organize a fundraiser and bring your friends, family, and neighbours together to share this project with them. We will provide you with the presentation material you need. A BBQ for example is a great option.

We will keep all donors updated on the fundraising progress on a regular basis. As at today, $555 has already been raised through 2 donors!! More on the project website.

Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you and receiving your seed gift.
