In February 2008, Rachelle Lynn Clune and Elizabeth Rhea Embry, both nurses in the United States of America (USA), will visit Helps International (HINT), an NGO located in Buea, South West Province of Cameroon in Sub-Sahara Africa.

During their time here, they will take part in a medical outreach program planned to take place in 2 rural communities: Ekona and Tole.

The outreaches are intended to:

  • Sensitize these communities on the HIV/AIDS pandemic

Genesis Tinshu represents HINT at Africa Source II Jan 8-15 2005 in Uganda

January 20, 2005 by Genesis Leave a Comment

Tinshu Genesis of HINT Cameron was selected from several hundreds of applicants to attend Tactical Tech’s Africa Source II. Africa Source II was an eight day hands-on workshop aimed at building the technical skills of those working with and within NGOs on the continent. It took place in one of the most beautiful parts of the Kalangala Island on Victoria Lake during the beginning of January 2006. Africa Source II focused on how technology, in particular Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) can be integrated into the project work of NGO’s. Over a hundred thirty NGO Support Professionals and NGO Staff working at the local level across the region were present at this meeting. Together with a handful of field leaders from Africa, Europe, North America and Asia, they explored how technology can best serve the non-profit sector in Africa both in terms of access and content.

With the knowledge acquired, Tinshu and his team will be exploring ways and possibilities of switching over to the Open Source applications. With HINT’s low spec machines, it will be easier for example to set up ‘thin client’ with free & open source software as opposed to using very expensive proprietary options.

There are photos available of the workshop.
