Fundraising Tips

June 1, 2010 by hint Leave a Comment

Below are a few ideas to help you raise money for your Volunteer Program.

  • • Craft a personal letter that explains what you are doing and why you have chosen to volunteer in a village with Village Volunteers. After you have applied, been accepted, and provided a $100 USD deposit, you will gain access to a fundraising templates that contain our US 501(c)(3) tax ID number and our logo. Donors can deduct their contributions.
  • • Make a presentation in your community; clubs, place of worship, schools, family/friends, and workplace.
  • • Make sure the letter is limited in length to one page and it describes the village or program you are visiting and what you hope to do while you are there.
  • • Explain how this journey will positively affect your life and the people you are helping.
  • • Provide stamped return envelopes with each letter. Remember, you want to make the donation process as easy as possible for your sponsor. All they should have to do is write the check.
  • • Contact your local publications with a press release. If you provide your contact information and a special interest factor, you might have a feature article written that would bring in more donations!
  • • Create a brochure for yourself.
  • • Create a website or e-mail distribution list and send out frequent e-mails about your fundraising experiences, dollars raised, and details of your journey while you are gone and after you return.
  • • Hold an event, silent auction or even a series of bake sales. Make sure that people know what the money from the bake sale will accomplish. Be sure you put out a donation jar. We can send you photos to print.
  • • Contact your school’s Financial Aid or Study Abroad Department. There might be funds available for you to tap into.
  • • Apply for a scholarship, grant or fellowship. Below are a few suggested sites.
  • • Scholarships, Grants and Fellowships
  • • Glimpse Correspondents Program for young writers and photographers who will be abroad for at least 10 weeks: http://glimpse.org/correspondents
  • • The Levinson Foundation: www.levinsonfoundation.org/
  • • American Association of University Women:www.aauw.org/education/fga/

  • • Fund-Raising.com: www.fund-raising.com/
  • • Create a Donation Form. This form will list all of your contact information and several donor amounts your sponsor can choose from. Start off with an initial modest amount ($25) but also request large donation amounts ($100+) and any amounts in between.

May 25, 2009 by Genesis Leave a Comment

[srandom=any,288,1,1,n,left,both]I am truly excited to inform you that we have now opened donations for the Computers For Sustainability (CFS) Project. We are looking for 2,753 who will donate USD 25 each towards the CFS project. I want to appeal that you consider becoming of of these people, willing to help build a future for HINT.

We have already put together a website to manage the project and you can read more about it and how to contribute at http://cfs.hintonline.org. We are very grateful for your generosity and look forward to your participation in the project.

There are a number of ways through which you can help:

(1) Make a donation online, by check, or direct bank-to-bank transfer. Details on the project site above.

(2) Invite others to donate by sharing this project with your friends in your various Social Networks (Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, Digg, Twitter, etc) and encouraging/inviting them to donate. You may also simply EMAIL the project link to your friends.

(3) Invite me to your church, meeting, organization, school, company, family or group for a presentation. I am in the USA fundraising for this project from June 14, 2009.

(4) You can organize a fundraiser and bring your friends, family, and neighbours together to share this project with them. We will provide you with the presentation material you need. A BBQ for example is a great option.

We will keep all donors updated on the fundraising progress on a regular basis. As at today, $555 has already been raised through 2 donors!! More on the project website.

Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you and receiving your seed gift.

Best Regards,
Genesis Tinshu
President/Executive Director

Joe & Hev Talbot visit again

April 13, 2009 by Genesis Leave a Comment

Joseph & Heather Talbot who were our very first international volunteers have visited us again.

They arrived Cameroon on April 10, 2009 for a two-week visit.

This time, they are not volunteering but just visiting their many friends that they made while in Cameroon.

We also want to thank them for a donation of 200 pounds from Heather’s Church, Kidlington Baptist Church to support our School PCs Project.

Thank you Joe & Hev, also for your donation of a refurbished pentium 4 Laptop badly needed for our work here. Thank you to  Kidlington Baptist Church for their continues support of our community impact efforts.

Upper Bonduma Credit Group created

April 10, 2009 by Genesis Leave a Comment

In our efforts to end poverty, HINT has started another Credit Group at upper Bonduma with 6 women.

Two group members who qualify have already received their first round of loans. We are working with the other 4 and will be giving out their loans soon.

The possibility of creating this Credit Group and supporting the women has been possible thanks to a $500 donation from John & Elizabeth Batton in Dallas/Fort Worth, USA.

Through our innovative  and high impact Credit Groups strategies, we are libearating several rural women from the grip of poverty through micro-loans and training. If you can help or partner with us, please visit the How you can help page. Thank you.
