Our lone annual fundraiser called Food For Funds (FFF) raised US$1,830 during the months of October/November 2008.
We wish to express our heart-felt gratitude to all our donors all of whom are US citizens who still gave despite the hash economic crisis that the USA and the entire worked is going through.
In keeping with our principle of transparency, we are grateful for the following donors:
- Brian and Christe Dodds, Texas
- John & Elizabeth Batton, Texas
- Stuart Nice, California
- Pastor Beverly Freeman, Texas
- More names soon
US$ 1,830 will provide business training, HIV information/training and loans to about 18 deserving and hardworking women who are entrepreneurs. This effort will indirectly improve the lives of about 130 people, given the large average family size in Cameroon.

Celebrate World Food Day this Thursday October 16 in a unique way.
Share a meal with your family, friends, co-workers or neighbours and remember the over 850 million people who know what it’s like to go to bed hungry every night around the world. Let your FOOD become FUNDS that will FEED a life!
As an organization, we have been actively involved in helping people come out of poverty in practical ways by building life skills and providing micro-loans for business start-up or expansion through funds we raise during our annual fund raiser – Food For Funds.
In 2007, Brian & Christe Dodds in Dallas/Fort Worth, USA decided to help and through their effort about $3000 was raised and this amount impacted the lives of about 30 women and over 210 people indirectly. Testimonies of last year’s recipients are here: http://fff.hintonline.org/07testimonies.htm. Join and help us meet our target of $10,000 this year to assist 80 families.
“If you can’t feed a hundred people, then just feed one”. Mother Theresa
As you take your breakfast, lunch and dinner this Thursday October 16, please remember in any way you can, the over 5 million children a year who die of hunger.” That means 1 child dies every 5 seconds of hunger! (Source: FAO)

On October 16, 2007, the world will be commemorating World Food Day (WFD). While others will have more than enough to eat, others will be dying of hunger. What an unequal world.
On that day, HINT will launch a program that we call Food For Funds (FFF). We are asking that you bring together 3 or more people or as many as you can bring together for a meal. You will eat together with your group members and then discuss ways to effective end hunger in the world. We will invite you and your group members to share your thoughts on this website. We will also be asking that you and your group members make donations to help with HINT’s poverty alleviation projects.
You can read more about this here: http://www. hintonline.org/youcanhelp/fundraising.php
What is Food for Funds

On October 16, 2008, the world will be commemorating World Food Day (WFD). While others will have more than enough to eat, others will be dying of hunger. What an unequal world. I have had the opportunity to visit countries in Europe and America and I am amazed at how much food is thrown away. On the other hand, I have also had countless number of people who have approached me in my community for help and who sincerely cannot afford the very basic of life – food.
During the week of October 12 – 19, 2008, we are asking that you bring together 2 or more people or as many as you can bring together for a meal. You will eat together with your group members and then discuss ways to effectively end hunger in the world. You will also watch together, PowerPoint presentations (and maybe videos) about how HINT is helping rural people overcome poverty in Cameroon, Sub-saharan Africa.
Finally, you will be invited to make a donation that will be used by HINT to extend micro-credit to rural women in Cameroon, to help them overcome poverty.
In 2007, we raised close to $3,000 from 15 donors who gathered at Arlington, USA during the first ever Food For Funds event that we orgainsed through the effort of one family – Brian & Christe Dodds. The funds were used to extend credit to 25 rural women organised in 4 credit groups in two rural communities in the the South West of Cameroon.
Our target for 2008 is a minimum of $10,000 to help a minimum of 80 rural women. Our vision is to see thousands of women liberated from poverty.
We now invite you to participate in FFF 2008 by becoming a host or joining an up-coming FFF event closest to you.

HINT admitted into Generous Giving Network

Helps International has been admitted into the Generous Giving Network. What does this mean?
Generous Giving is a privately funded Christian ministry that seeks to encourage givers of all income levels—as well as pastors, church lay leaders and others—to experience the joy of giving and embrace a lifestyle of generosity, according to God’s word and Christ’s example. It was launched in 2000 by the Maclellan Foundation to stir a renewed, Spirit-led commitment to generosity among Christians. Generous Giving does not solicit donations.
Through the Generous Giving Marketplace (the world’s largest searchable database of faith-based funding opportunities …) verified and approved Christian churches and nonprofit ministries can post funding opportunities which can be viewed and possibly funded online by thousands of donors worldwide.
We can post as many projects as we want but we must pay US$ 45 per project for it to be visible to donors. This is where we need you to come in. If you will like to pay for one or more projects to be visible, please contact us. Thank you.
Fundraising in UK for HINT
December 23, 2006 by Genesis

Two of HINT’s UK supporters, Michael and Margaret Astbury who recently visited Cameroon have organized a Coffee evening to raise funds for our Community Library Project here in Buea. About 80% of children in primary schools in Cameroon have 20% of the required text books while only about 20% have about 70% of the required text books. With this condition, learning for the children and teaching for the teachers become difficult. We have been trying to help this situation by buying books for about 50 children for the past 2 years.
Based on a research conducted by Heather Talbot (currently volunteering for HINT) we have decided to set up a library to help provide textbooks to school children in Cameroon. We will buy and stock a large database of the books the children need and give out the books to them at the beginning of each school year. They will use and return to the library for other children to use and the cycle goes on and on.
Each child needs approximately 8-10 textbooks and each costs averagely US$ 7 (GBP 3.6). The project will be formally launched in September 2007 when schools re-open in Cameroon.
About US $ 578.8 (GBP 308) has now been raised so far for this project. However, we need US $ 13,875.53 (GBP 7,191.63) to be able to set up a library with 2000 books to serve about 300 children in the 3 pilot schools we are working with. This is a very exciting and innovative program and we are inviting you to invest in a child’s life today. The fulfillment of this project means that parents can save more money for children’s’ health, nutrition, etc…
You can contact Mike and Margaret through the Quay Church website to join them in supporting childrens’ education in Africa.
OR
donate one or more books today to change a child’s life.
